About the Creator

Hi, I'm Alex. I recently graduated from U of M with my Bachelor's, majoring in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology and minoring in Writing. I am currently pursuing a career in technical writing.

I created this website as a resource to help others at U of M. I was inspired by the Spectrum Center's Gender Inclusive Restroom Map, which likewise helps students locate an important amenity on campus.

About the Website

I found all the microwaves listed here by exploring buildings around Central Campus. For my research, I explored over 20 buildings in Fall 2019. See below for a list of buildings I've explored.

I don't plan on exploring for more microwaves in the future. However, I hope others will inform me of other student-accessible microwaves via the Suggest page.

Student-Accessible: A student-accessible microwave can be accessed and used by students without bothering others. Microwaves locked in private offices or guarded by receptionists aren't relevant here.

Note that some microwaves listed here are intended for the staff of specific departments. For example, students can easily access the kitchens in the Biological Sciences Building, but these kitchens are intended for BSB staff. As long as you're polite, I don't anticipate issues using any microwave listed here.

In other words, practice common courtesy: Don't hog the microwave during a busy lunch hour, don't steal from the coffee maker, don't commandeer the whole kitchen with a big group of friends, etc.

If any department I've listed here would like their microwaves removed from this site, please contact me via the Suggest page.

1. Some floors of these buildings were not explored.

2. One source indicated kitchens on the 3rd and 4th floors of the LSA Building. I found a 4th-floor kitchen, but it was locked at the time (~6 PM if I recall correctly)

3. I found microwaves in lounges on the 2nd floor of Angell Hall and the 3rd floor of Haven Hall, but it seemed like random students wouldn't be welcome in those lounges.

4. I found an old brochure indicating microwaves on almost every floor of Weiser Hall. However, it seems the upper floors are not very accessible to students.
